Role of human pheromones in sexual orientation

Role of human pheromones in sexual orientation -

Have you ever wondered why men who are not particularly attractive or good looking seem to unendingly attract women? They seem to have some mysterious chemical attraction about themselves. Some call it the secret sexual magnet or naturally occurring pheromones.

Thus, what really makes women go crazy about men and vice versa are certain body chemicals called pheromones.

Pheromones are odourless air borne chemicals secreted from the body that affect sexual behaviour. Clinical research proves that the greater the pheromone secretion, the greater the sexual attractiveness

In humans, pheromones are activated at puberty. Both men and women produce varying amounts of the “male” pheromone - androstenone and androstenol, but only women secrete the “female” pheromone - copulins.

What research goes on to prove –

Researchers have shown in clinical experiments that human pheromones trigger a subconscious sexual response in the opposite sex. In one particular study, researchers sprayed pheromones on one single chair in a dentist's waiting room. No other chair was sprayed with pheromones. Results were surprising - it was found that majority of women sat on the chair sprayed with the pheromone as compared to the other chairs.

Further research studies have showed that use of pheromones have increased attractiveness to the opposite sex in terms of –
  • Starting up a conversation
  • Expressing an interest in a man or woman
  • Flirting
  • Being physically responsive, such as touching, kissing
  • Becoming sexually excited
  • Actually having sex
Thus, all men and women produce organic pheromones that help naturally attract the opposite sex.

Humans release chemicals in tears, saliva, vaginal secretions and perspiration. These chemicals send signals relating to mood, sexuality, passion to the subconscious recipient. One theory is that a dominant male will radiate more of these chemical attractants than a submissive counterpart. This chemical attracts more females to him. It is similar for a woman attracting men. This natural attractant also contributes to more intense excitement during sexual intercourse.

Why pheromones are not very active in humans?

Humans maintain a certain degree of good hygiene; and pheromones usually have a stale, sweaty smell - we may have interfered with the natural phenomenon. Pheromones are destroyed each morning as we wash, bathe, use deodorants, mouthwash etc Then we drench ourselves with perfumes, aftershave, colognes thinking that this will make us attractive to the opposite sex.

In fact, we are actually destroying what attracts the opposite sex naturally to us!
Pheromones as sex attractants – potential uses:

Pheromones as sex attractants have potential therapeutics benefits and potential uses, such as promoting the emotional, sexual, and reproductive well-being of a woman.

People with infertility problems need an active sexual life to conceive. Research studies have given concrete proof that couples trying to conceive a viable pregnancy, benefit from regular weekly sexual intercourse because such behaviour increases the possibility of a fertile-type cycle in the woman.

Pheromones do help promote as well as restore romance, passion and they may serve as a useful add-on to both the psychological and biological reproductive treatment.

Thus, now do you understand why you’ve been physically attracted to someone but were not really sure why?
